Denmark

Denmark is some 50 kms west of Albany and was gazetted as a town in 1909. The town is named after the nearby river which was named after Dr Alexander Denmark, a physician on an 1829 exploration vessel. The Noongar name was Koorrabup. Prior to official town recognition, a settlement existed here for years and included a Millars timber mill. The first European view of this area was from the Dutch vessel Gulden Zeepaert (Golden Seahorse) in 1627
