Trigg

A beachside suburb on West Coast Drive, north of Scarborough and south from North Beach. Known for its popular beach and also interesting rock formations along the coast.  Named after Trigg Island, a rocky outcrop just off the beach which was named after Henry Trigg, Superintendent of Public Works in the mid 1800's. Years ago, Trigg Island was often cut off from the beach in the winter at high tide thus becoming an island. This event rarely occurs now

Trigg - Trigg Island

Trigg Island viewed from slightly to the north. Is it an island or is it not? It is a large rocky outcrop and connected to the mainland only by surface sand. At a really high tide the area would be surrounded by water so I guess it technically can be called an island. May 2012. Photos Ref: TRIG001

Trigg - Trigg Island

On Trigg Island is an amazing wonderland of jagged hard limestone formations, the softer sections being eroded away by wind and wave over the centuries. May 2012. Photos Ref: TRIG002

Trigg - Trigg Island Fishing

On lower rocks on the ocean side of Trigg Island. The tide is running in and this hardy fisherman got covered in spray from breaking surf a couple of times whilst waiting for a bite. May 2012. Photos Ref: TRIG003

Trigg - Trigg Island Looking South

Looking across the Island rock formations and south down along Trigg Beach. You can see Rendezvous Observation City Hotel in Scarborough over there in the distance. May 2012. Photos Ref: TRIG004

Trigg - Trigg Island Looking North

Looking north from the Island across a small beach. You can see Norfolk Island pines and some fine houses which line West Coast Drive. That road used to be West Coast Highway until the road in southern Trigg was diverted to connect up with Marmion Avenue. May 2012. Photos Ref: TRIG005

Trigg - Trigg Island Looking North

Another view of the beach north of Trigg Island. Over in the distance is North Beach and beyond that Marmion then Sorrento. May 2012. Photos Ref: TRIG006

Trigg - Rocks on Beach

Just south of Bennion Beach is a section of rather treacherous, rocky coastline where waves crash over the rocks, as they are in this picture.  May 2012. Photos Ref: TRIG007

Trigg - Bird Island

Bird Island is my name, I don't think this rock has an official name. This off-shore rock is south of Bennion Beach and provides a perfect, albeit wind-swept, sanctuary for bird-life. May 2012. Photos Ref: TRIG008

Trigg - Trigg Island Cafe Restaurant

To the south of Trigg Island is the Trigg Island Cafe Restaurant, right on the beach front. July 2012. Photos Ref: TRIG009

Trigg - Surf Lookout Tower

Next to the Trigg Island Cafe Restaurant is the Surf Club lookout tower. Off left (not visible) is the Surf Life Saving Club building itself. In the background you can see all the way to Scarborough and beyond. The most prominent landmark is the Rendezvous Observation City Hotel in Scarborough. July 2012. Photos Ref: TRIG010

Trigg - Learn To Surf

Still a little further south from the Surf Club lookout is this beach-side building - Learn To Surf - and it's full of wet-suits, surf boards and associated paraphernalia. October 2012. Photos Ref: TRIG011

Trigg - Sand Dune Regeneration

A south-westerly view from near the Learn To Surf shop across some re-growth on the sand dunes then across the ocean. October 2012. Photos Ref: TRIG012
