Aircraft in Western Australia Prior to Perth Airport opening, aircraft used a landing field at Maylands and also at Langley Park in Perth city. The current Perth Airport commenced commercial operations in 1945 although the site had been used by the military prior to then. In those days it was known as the Guildford Aerodrome. Horrie Miller moved his MacRobertson Miller Airlines (MMA) from Maylands to Guildford in 1948, followed by Trans Australia Airlines (TAA) at the end of the same year |

Northam A few kilometres east of Northam I saw this hot-air balloon making a low pass over the stubble in this paddock. It was only around 7.30am on a crisp Sunday winter morning but the enthusiasts were out in force. There were three or four balloons in the sky that I saw this morning and probably many that I didn't.
