Ledge Point

A popular and growing town 17 kms south of Lancelin and 120 kms north of Perth. Originally a fishing place and squatter village, the town is now expanding, and is popular with holiday-makers and retirees. The town takes its name from Ledge Point, a nearby geographic rocky coastal feature mapped by a Royal Navy survey in 1875. The town was gazetted as such in 1955 and lies within the Shire of Gingin. Cray fishing is still big business along this coast

Ledge Point - Bakery and Cafe

This building is the Ledge Point Bakery & Cafe and was pretty well patronised this day. What a pleasant design. Owner accommodation is probably upstairs. January 2011. Photos Ref: LEDG001

Ledge Point - Houses Next to Bakery

These houses are to the left of the bakery. This picture was taken from up near the lookout, across the park. Those terraced houses would not look out of place in Hillarys or Mindarie. January 2011. Photos Ref: LEDG002

Ledge Point - Beach Looking North

The spectacular coastline sweeps off to the north. The path way obviously runs down to the beach. Not many people on the beach today probably because of the high winds. January 2011. Photos Ref: LEDG003

Ledge Point - Fishing Boats

Fishing boats bob up and down at anchor in the sea off the coast of Ledge Point. January 2011. Photos Ref: LEDG004

Ledge Point - Lookout

This is the lookout where you get fantastic views up and down the coast. Up there are a couple of plaques detailing ship wrecks that have occurred along this piece of coast and remembering the lives that were lost. January 2011. Photos Ref: LEDG005

Ledge Point - Garage and Convenience Store

The Ledge Point multi-purpose deli, petrol station, newsagency, post office (and probably other things) which are so common in many small country towns. One-stop shopping at its best. January 2011. Photos Ref: LEDG006

Ledge Point - Houses

Some fine homes in Ledge Point. There are many quite sumptuous houses and building activity looks strong. Many of these would be occupied by retirees or are holiday rentals or weekenders. January 2011. Photos Ref: LEDG007

Ledge Point - Houses

This little tumble-down cottage is right on the beach front and is for sale. You can ring the agent if you're quick enough. What you don't see in this picture is that this building is flanked by two rather large and splendid dwellings, and I'd bet this piece of land would be worth quite a bit. January 2011.
