Ellenbrook Ellenbrook is a new but rapidly growing suburb north off Gnangara Road, near Henley Brook. As recently as around 1990, this suburb simply did not exist, not even a single road. Ellenbrook obtains its name from the nearby Ellen Brook which is a small tributary of the Swan River. Ellen Brook was named after Ellen Stirling, wife of Governor James Stirling. So great is the recent local expansion that a spur rail passenger line out of Bassendean is being considered |

Ellenbrook - Shops It has been a long time - probably years - since I entered Ellenbrook. It has certainly grown. This is one of the entrances to the new and vast shopping centre. It looks sparkling with lots of room and pleasant inside. July 2011. Photos Ref: ELLN001 |

Ellenbrook - New Apartments Here is a closer view of the apartments under construction. This suburb is charging ahead. Now I understand why there is talk of the need for a passenger rail spur out to here. July 2011. Photos Ref: ELLN006 |

Ellenbrook - The Dome The main street of the new shopping area looking a lot like Joondalup with the buildings mostly made of pre-fabricated prop-ups. This is the local Dome. July 2011. Photos Ref: ELLN007 |

Ellenbrook - Bridge at Wood Lake Wood Lake is dotted with many a small gazebo around the shore, an island duck-haven, and this bridge which connects to a small island which offers great lake views. July 2011. Photos Ref: ELLN010 |

Ellenbrook - Waterfall at Wood Lake Yet again at Wood Lake, a small waterfall bubbles from another (higher) part of the lake into this one. The planning, building and maintenance of this lake and park is a credit to all those involved. July 2011. Photos Ref: ELLN011 |

Ellenbrook - Metronet Station The new Ellenbrook Station which opened to the public on 09 December 2024. It took all of 16 minutes to get here from Bayswater. It would be hard to equal that on the roads. Nice trip, plenty of room in a 3-set B-Class. This line is restricted to 3-4 car consists as station platforms south of Bayswater are too short accommodate the 6 car sets, which completely rules out the new C-class rail sets being assembled at Midland as they can't be decoupled into threes. Ellenbrook - Metronet Station Trackside view here. Possibly a little smaller and more open than its southern neighbours. This is right in the middle of Ellenbrook, a boon for the townsfolk. The Brook Bar and Bistro etc are so close you could easily walk here. Speaking of futures, I see that there is a corridor of land set aside for some rail extension one day. Good thinking.
